I think a person has the right to know and should be told unless telling them would put their health at risk.

Yes, one should be told. When my wife was diagnosed I was instructed by our doctor not to reveal that she had MS but that she had sciatica. It came as a relief to me when she found out herself six months later.

I too believe that the patient has every right to be informed of their diagnosis of MS. It's not right to keep it from them as it is their illness/condition and I feel the person must be informed to help them gain a better understanding of their condition so they are able to plan for the future, a future with MS. The person needs to be kept informed on all of the latest medical news and reports dealing with medical treatments and alternative treatments to help them decide what course is best for them with regards to helping treat their MS. Also, when a person is told that they have MS it can be a relief. Personally, when I was diagnosed, the sense of relief over-whelmed me. After months of uncertainty and depression caused by my symptoms, I was at last able to at least begin to understand why my body is acting the way it is, both mentally as well as physically. It is quite a difficult & unpredictable condition to come to terms with, but I feel so glad that I know :-)

I completely agree with Cliona. People can be waiting lenghty periods of time for a diagnosis of MS and have every right to be told about their condition, what treatments are available to them and how it is likely to affect them in the future.
